The cost of a swimming pool is estimated on the total square footage of the pool. The deeper the pool, the pricier it gets because of the excavation work. Shallow pools (5 ft. or less) require less excavation and less concrete, allowing owners to maximize savings with a baja shelf or other shallow area. Regarding features, waterfalls, grottos and slides add to the final cost of a pool. A vanishing edge pool is probably the most expensive design feature because of the engineering that is involved.
