According to a survey of tanning businesses conducted by Looking Fit magazine, the average price they charge per tanning session: $5 and under, 3%; $5.01-$7.00, 34%; $7.01 and up, 63%. In 2001, tanning sessions priced at $5 and under accounted for 25% of the total.

The majority of free-standing tanning salons include an average of at least 10 rooms with 4-5 levels of tanning, plus a sunless unit (37% of the top 250 salons in 2008 reported having at least five levels of tanning services, while only 2% offered just one level).  A typical 10-unit salon may feature one big bed, two mid-range or premium beds, a UV standup, five entry-level beds and a sunless unit.
