Radio Helped Make Records at the Box Office
Bohemian Rhapsody – an award-winning film, a record-breaking box office hit, a rock classic for over 40 years, a chart-topping song and a band that influenced the lives and careers of so many.
To drive unprecedented awareness for the film’s November 2, 2018 release, 20th Century Fox partnered with iHeartMedia to implement a first-ever song roadblock on November 1 across more than 650 iHeartMedia music stations and websites nationwide, each playing the entire six-minute version of Queen’s iconic hit song, “Bohemian Rhapsody” at 9AM local time.
In addition to the roadblock, iHeartMedia enlisted some of the biggest names in music to share special tributes about how Queen impacted their music careers and lives.
This program helped the film break box office records to become the biggest music biopic ever and the “Bohemian Rhapsody” song re-entered Billboard’s Hot 100 for the first time since 1992. Digital song sales surged 236% and achieved a 77% increase on U.S. streams.
