Radio Generates Millions of Dollars in Donations for Ad Council’s Generous Nation Campaign

New York, New York – February 12, 2007 – Radio stations throughout the country have donated millions of dollars in advertising time for the Ad Council’s Generous Nation campaign, which is designed to encourage listeners to help those in need.

Since the beginning of the Radio industry roadblock, which began the second week of December and ran through the end of January, web traffic to the Generous Nation site increased over 60 percent. 

The Ad Council’s Generous Nation campaign delivered a simple message: “Don't almost give -- give.”  The Radio PSAs encourage listeners to visit the campaign's website, www.DontAlmostGive.org, where they can conduct a search by zip code to find volunteer opportunities in their communities and to donate to more than one million charities at the local or national levels. 

“Radio’s ability to inspire listeners on a personal and local level had a significant impact on our Generous Nation campaign,” stated Peggy Conlon, President and Chief Executive Officer, the Ad Council.  “We are incredibly grateful to the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) and stations across the country for supporting these critical messages and inspiring Americans to give.”

Radio’s annual contribution accounts for approximately half of all donated media, based on the Ad Council’s reporting.

“Radio is very proud to partner with the Ad Council for this effort and throughout the year,” noted Jeff Haley, President and Chief Executive Officer, Radio Advertising Bureau.  “The result of Radio’s impact on this campaign firmly establishes our power to ignite community spirit and engage listeners to act.” 

The Radio spots were distributed by the Ad Council digitally and on CD to Radio stations across the country prior to the December holidays.  Generous Nation is designed to bolster the efforts of the nonprofit community by galvanizing the many Americans who are inspired to give, to give more frequently and to help those who are most in need.

The Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) is the sales and marketing arm of the Radio industry with nearly 7,000 members including close to 6,000 stations in the U.S., and over 1,000 associate members in networks, representative firms, sales, and international organizations.
