George Hyde Receives Prestigious William J. Brooks Award
From Florida Association of Broadcasters
New York, New York – July 11, 2007 -- Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) Executive Vice President George Hyde has recently been honored as the 2007 recipient of the William J. Brooks Award by the Florida Association of Broadcasters (FAB). Hyde, who has been Executive Vice President for RAB for the past 17 years, was presented with the prestigious award during the 73rd Annual FAB Convention in Palm Beach, Florida on June 21st.
Hyde is well-known as a major player within the Radio industry, and even more so for his dedication and assistance to the state of Florida. One of his most important career accomplishments was the chief role he played in overturning the Florida Ad Tax in 1987. As Co-Chair of a special FAB-created Task Force, he helped lead the crusade to repeal the Florida Ad Tax in one of the quickest turnarounds ever on a major public policy issue.
“It was only appropriate that on the 20th anniversary of the defeat of the major ad tax for the state of Florida that George, the co-leader for Radio, should receive the William J. Brooks Award this year,” stated FAB President, Pat Roberts. “George has become a leader in the Radio industry and a huge asset to RAB. We’re just glad that he is still a Florida resident.”
“George has been a vital part of the RAB,” noted RAB President and CEO Jeff Haley. “His knowledge, expertise, and leadership have been integral to the growth of RAB and invaluable to our industry. We are extremely proud that the FAB has honored him with this award in recognition of his service and dedication to the Radio industry.”
Hyde has a Radio sales and management career that spans more than 40 years. In his current position, Hyde’s responsibilities include creation and implementation of RAB sales and management training and consulting activities. He also directs RAB’s annual Marketing Leadership Conference, which has grown to be the largest convention of its kind in the world.
The William J. Brooks Award was established by FAB in 1988 to honor a legendary Florida broadcaster for his example of exceptional service and dedication to his profession and peers. This prestigious award is given annually to an individual that exemplifies the highest standards set by this awards namesake, William J. Brooks. Past recipients include Willard Scott, Mark Mays, Dean Goodman, Lowell “Bud” Paxson, and James H. Quello.
The Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) is the sales and marketing arm of the Radio industry with nearly 7,000 members including close to 6,000 stations in the U.S., and over 1,000 associate members in networks, representative firms, sales and international organizations.
