||Retailers, Restaurants Join Facebook Deals
Facebook's brand new deals service will kick off with several very recognizable names. Retailers Macy's and American Eagle Outfitters and restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill announced that they will participate in the Facebook Deals launch.
Retail giant Macy's announced that beginning on Thursday it would offer customers special discounts when they check in from store locations using Facebook Places.
"With a reach that is 500 million users strong, the power and influence of Facebook today is undeniable," Macy's executive vice president of marketing and advertising Martine Reardon said in a statement.
Customers who check in to Facebook Places from a Macy's will see a yellow pop-up icon from the retailer that will include discounts of 20% on apparel, accessories, jewelry and some home items, or 10% on electronics, furniture and mattresses. The effort will run through Nov. 14.
American Eagle, aerie and 77kids customers who check in from one of their stores will receive 20% off their entire purchase, simply by showing their phone at the counter. The company will use the initiative to reach their target demographic of 15- to 25-year olds.
"American Eagle Outfitters customers are avid users of Facebook," American Eagle Outfitters vice president of digital marketing Mike Dupuis said. "Facebook Deals enables American Eagle Outfitters to strengthen (our customers') connection with our brand in their preferred mode of communication."
Diners who check in from any U.S. Chipotle Mexican Grill location Nov. 13-14 or Nov. 20-21 will receive a buy-one-get-one entrée, which includes a burrito, burrito bowl, tacos or salad. Customers must show their smartphone check-in to the cashier to validate the offer.
"With more than 1 million Chipotle fans on Facebook, we enjoy frequent conversations with our customers about our business and what makes us different," Chipotle chief marketing officer Mark Crumpacker said in a statement. "Facebook has become a great tool for us to establish and deepen relationships with our customers, and we're excited to make this offer to the Facebook community."
