What Stations Are Doing: After Vendor Goes Under, Denver's KBCO Helps Charities

Clear Channel adult alternative KBCO, Denver (97.3), has been making money for charities over the past two decades with the sale of its "Studio C" albums each holiday season. This past Christmas was no different. But when the store chain that sold the CDs recently filed for bankruptcy, the station took it upon itself to help.

KBCO wrote checks for $80,000 to the Boulder County AIDS Project and $20,000 to the Food Bank of the Rockies. "We felt that our commitment to the charities had to be met," program director Scott Arbough told the Boulder Daily Camera.

Court filings show Ultimate Electronics owed KBCO $360,000 for the CDs sold. Boulder County AIDS Project director of development Dan Hanley told the paper, "That they would pay us even though they didn't get the money from Ultimate Electronics just does not surprise me. They are just so committed to our community."

KBCO's "Studio C" CDs typically sell out within one day, with demand so strong buyers are limited to two apiece. Volume 22 featured songs recorded live on the air from performers including Jack Johnson, The Doobie Brothers and Natalie Merchant.

Are You Getting Your Share of Digital Business?

There is a reason Radio is not getting the Digital revenue it deserves: Too many clients don't think Radio sellers understand Digital. And that means the money that could be going to Radio, to your stations, to your commission checks, is likely going somewhere else.

It doesn't have to.

RAB's Certified Digital Marketing Consultant (CDMC) training will give you and your team the confidence and ability to present and close your station's Digital business. Period.

The next online class begins Thursday, March 10. For more information, contact Rob Boaden today at (843) 757-5066 or rboaden@rab.com.
