What Stations Are Doing: Time to Roll the Dice on Social

At the NAB Show, Vince Benedetto, President and CEO of Bold Gold Media Group, shared two ideas to drive radio stations' social sites during a rapid-fire idea exchange.

He told about how one of his stations in Scranton, PA partnered with a local casino. The station, "105 The River," WWRR, built a broadcast studio in the high-traffic location and called it "Studio of the Stars at Mohegan Sun Casino." He says 12,000 people walk by his studio each day.

Daily Sales Tip: DIY, YDI, DIT

I overheard a digital agency executive talking about digital marketing for Small and Medium Businesses. He said there are 3 ways for SMBs to approach digital campaigns:

1. DIY -– Do It Yourself. Here the SMB would handle placing digital ad buys, social media, mobile, streaming, and other elements himself or herself. This is not likely to be a great plan considering the many responsibilities SMB owners have running their business.

2. YDI -– You Do It. This is where the SMB hires an agency to handle all aspects of his or her digital advertising. This, too, is unlikely because of the expense.

3. DIT -– Do It Together. Here is where radio salespeople come in. The SMB decision-maker can do some of the work provided a trusted partner is able to help.

Present your and your station's ability to help advertisers with digital needs: SEO, SEM, social, reputation management. If you don't have resources inside the station, look for partnerships with agencies or vendors such as Orange Soda (http://www.orangesoda.com/), PricingEngine (http://pricingengine.com/), HubShout (http://hubshout.com/), or similar companies.
