Time Spent In Mobile Far Outpaces Ad Spending
Keywords: Mobile Advertising

Web publishers have long lamented the lack of ad spending online in relation to the amount of time spent online. Now, Flurry is making the same case for mobile.

In a new study, the mobile advertising and analytics firm says mobile is the most imbalanced medium when it comes to ad spending versus time spent, at 1% compared to 23%. That makes the split of ad spending and time spent on the desktop Web -- at 16% versus 22% -- look a lot better.

Retailers Shut Facebook Storefonts Amid Apathy
Keywords: Social Media

Last April, Gamestop Corp. opened a store on Facebook to generate sales among the 3.5 million-plus customers who'd declared themselves "fans" of the video game retailer. Six months later, the store was quietly shuttered.

Gamestop has company. Over the past year, Gap Inc., J.C. Penney Co. and Nordstrom Inc. have all opened and closed storefronts on Facebook Inc.'s social networking site.

What You're Going to Need to Know About Pinterest
Keywords: Social Media

Talking about an online social network where users share interests undoubtedly sounds kind of redundant nowadays. But it is true that the great success of Pinterest shows that surfers apparently have a need that still hasn't been adequately satisfied by the web's most popular social networks.

Daily Sales Tip: The Top Online Video Prospects

If you have the availability to sell online video, prospect Consumer Package Goods. According to The Center for Media Research and online ad server YuMe, CPG was the top category for online video spending last year. CPG made up 24% of dollars spent. After that, Health/Pharmaceutical was second at 16%, followed by Telecom at 13%. Other categories in the top 10 were Financial Services, Entertainment, Retail, Travel, Autos and Consumer Electronics.

The research also points toward the need to keep your pre-roll video short. Their research shows 15-second pre-rolls had the highest completion rate of 76% compared to 30-second-plus pre-rolls with a completion rate of 54%.

If you don't have the availability to sell online video yet, now is a good time to get started. Audio/video equipment is inexpensive, easy to use, and with simple editing software allows your station to quickly produce video. Cost-per-thousands are much higher for video than online audio or online display ads.
