NextRadio App Grows Rapidly
Keywords: Radio

This week, Gary Shapiro, President and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association, reversed his criticism of FM receivers in mobile phones. He had been critical of radio's efforts of requiring mobile phones to enable the FM chip, but after getting a demonstration of the NextRadio app his comments have turned favorable.

Jeff Smulyan, Chairman, President and CEO of Emmis Communications, the company responsible for developing NextRadio, gave the demo to Shapiro at the Canadian Music Week convention in Toronto. Smulyan has been an enthusiastic promoter of enabling FM chips, saying it will increase radio listening opportunities.

Daily Sales Tip: 'Own a Day'

Carol Floyd, Market Manager for Cromwell Group Inc. of Illinois, shared an idea while speaking on a panel at the NAB Show. She called it "Own a Day."

Sell one advertiser per day a commercial every 12 hours. Tie it into a theme or event the advertiser is promoting. Use hooks that tie into advertisers' products or services like Rocktober, Country Music Month, or Own a Day in May.
