Web Influences Trillion Dollars in Retail Sales
Keywords: Online Retailing
New research from GroupM Search, with research partner Kantar Media Compete, reveals that 86% of buyers who purchase in-store use generic terms on search engines to inform their purchase decision. The study, featuring RadioShack, Audi, and a national entertainment brand, also shows that when a shopper conducts a search online and clicks on a link, 90% of those clicks are on the organic listings of a search engine results page. |

Daily Sales Tip: 'Local' Drives Social Networking Success
Farmers Insurance reported at the Online Media Marketing and Advertising (OMMA) conference in San Francisco last week that it had great success because of a local social media effort.
After an unsuccessful social media campaign at the national level, Farmers turned to its 15,000 agents. Each was asked to push the campaign message through their own Facebook pages. In one day, Farmers Insurance increased their "Likes" from 130,000 to 2.2 million.
Your localized social media pages have exceptional power when used to communicate with your followers. Use your pages to communicate in a dialogue with listeners and mix in creative messages that prompt your fans to visit your paying advertisers.
Farmers felt the campaign was successful beyond the recognition they received in the Guinness Book of World Records for most "Likes" in a single day. Their agency says they tracked the increase in referrals and can't prove causation, but found a clear correlation.
