Grocers that help customers feed the hungry are trying some new ways to stretch charity dollars this holiday season.

Publix and Winn-Dixie have ditched those prepackaged bags destined for food banks. Sweetbay Supermarket packaged theirs in a $10 box that's delivered to a food bank or taken by customers to donate.

Hamilton Beach Bows First Ads Since '09

Appliance maker Hamilton Beach is launching three new household products -- a new line of irons, a new coffeemaker, and an updated cooker -- with a new ad campaign comprising three TV commercials.

The effort, via Darling Agency, New York, is the Richmond, Virginia company's first new advertising in two years. It is set to break pre-Christmas.

 

What Stations Are Doing: Watermark Raises Big Money For Medical Center

A big congratulations to everyone at WSUL and WVOS in upstate New York. Recently, Watermark Communications General Manager Helena Manzione presented a $60,000 check to the Catskill Regional Medical Center. That amount represents 100% of the proceeds pledged and collected from last year's 2011 WSUL/WVOS Annual Heart-A-Thon that took place February 26.
