Consumers Favoring Grocery Stores, Wholesale Clubs Because of Competitive Prices, Loyalty Discounts

Grocery stores and wholesale clubs are becoming the gasoline-fill-up destinations of choice for U.S. consumers, as they continue to grab market share from traditional service stations and convenience stores, according to a new study by Market Force Information.

The survey of more than 5,300 drivers found that Kroger is their favorite gasoline retailer, followed by Costco and QuikTrip, who are tied for second, and Sam's Club.

Consumers Voice Their Reasons for Switching Supermarkets
Wegmans, Trader Joe's and Publix were named as the top three supermarket chains in the country in a new survey of more than 27,000 subscribers to Consumer Reports magazine.

But while there was lots to celebrate by the winners in the ratings, there was also a sobering statistic: One-third of the survey respondents said they had stopped shopping at a nearby grocery store in the past year.
