Parents Spending More on Kids This Summer
Keeping kids active and entertained during the summer is big business, and the amount of money spent by parents keeps growing. A new study by American Express reveals that parents are shelling out an average of $958 per child for summer activities this year, an increase of 12% from 2013 and a whopping 59% from 2012.
In all, more than $70 billion will be spent by the end of the summer on such activities as day trips (e.g., theme parks), sports teams, pool or club memberships, education or arts programs, day camps and sleep-away camps.
