NPD Stat of the Week: L&G sales

Through April, total lawn and garden sales were up 3% in 2021 compared to the same period in 2020. However, after strong March growth of 14%, April results declined 6% versus 2020 but are up 10% when compared to 2019. The April loss came from both a decrease in number of buyers as well as a decrease in spend per buyer. Digging deeper, the buyer decline occurred among those who purchased lawn and garden only online, while the number of in-store buyers grew compared to last year – a sign that shoppers are feeling optimistic about going back to stores.
