New York, February 14, 2006 – The Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB) and U.S. performing right organization BMI are continuing their program this year to provide scholarships to minorities in radio advertising sales.

Speaking before the RAB Management Leadership Conference Saturday in Dallas, Dan Spears, BMI Assistant Vice President, Media Licensing, said that applications for this year's scholarships are now being accepted. Interested students will find the application forms and the schedule of classes, dates, and locations at www.RAB.com. The application deadline is March 30, 2007.
"It gives us much pleasure to partner with RAB in supporting the radio industry through this program," said BMI's Mike O'Neill, Senior Vice President of Licensing. "We believe it's important to provide sales executives with the training to help them succeed in this competitive business. Encouraging diversity in the radio industry benefits all of us by helping us better understand the needs of our customers and adapt to a changing marketplace."
Each scholarship is valued at $1,200. Recipients may choose either a one-week program at RAB’s Dallas campus, or a two-and-a-half-day extension program conducted in cities around the U.S. Over 125 BMI-funded scholarships have been awarded since the program’s inception six years ago.
“BMI’s steadfast support of the FastStart Minority Scholarship program strengthens Radio’s commitment to diversity,” noted Mike Mahone, Executive Vice President, Member Services, RAB. “It also reinforces the important role that training can play to achieving sales success. We are grateful to BMI for sponsoring this very worthy and valuable scholarship.”
