Multifamily housing starts drop sharply in April

Starts for buildings with five or more units fell 32.9% year-over-year in April to 322,000 units. Permits for such buildings dropped 23%, while completions rose 18.1%. Overall housing starts were 1.4 million, a 0.6% decline, with single-family homes up 17.7%.
