What Types of News do Americans Seek Out or Happen to Come Across?
Americans often encounter news passively rather than seeking it out, with about two-thirds coming across opinion (64%) and humorous content (66%) incidentally, while far fewer stumble upon in-depth reporting, highlighting a shift toward reactive and lighter content formats.
This behavior points to a more fragmented and attention-driven media environment, creating momentum for categories like media, retail, entertainment and consumer brands that can break through with engaging, easily digestible content that meets audiences where discovery is increasingly unintentional.
