Americans Oppose AI Data Centers in Their Area
Gallup found that while Americans generally support the growth of data centers and recognize their role in powering AI and digital services, a majority oppose having them built near where they live, citing concerns around energy usage, water consumption, environmental impact and strain on local infrastructure.
This tension between technological growth and community resistance highlights increasing scrutiny around infrastructure expansion, creating implications for utilities, real estate, construction, technology and public sector planning efforts tied to energy demand, sustainability and local economic development.
