Remote Work Leaves Younger Workers Sidelined

Research from the New York Fed suggests younger workers may be missing out on valuable career development opportunities in remote and hybrid environments, as reduced in-person interaction can limit mentorship, networking and informal learning experiences that often accelerate professional growth. The findings indicate that while remote work offers flexibility, it may also contribute to slower advancement for employees early in their careers.

This dynamic highlights a growing challenge for employers balancing flexibility with workforce development, creating implications for professional services, education, HR technology and training sectors focused on employee engagement, skill development and career progression.
