How Demographics and Sticker Shock are Reshaping Drinking Culture

Restaurant operators are navigating a changing beverage landscape as demographic shifts and rising prices alter drinking habits. Older consumers are drinking less frequently, younger adults are approaching alcohol more selectively and intentionally, and higher menu prices are causing consumers to think more carefully about when and where they purchase alcoholic beverages. The result is a market increasingly shaped by moderation, value considerations and occasion-based consumption rather than volume alone.

These shifts are creating new opportunities for restaurants, bars, beverage brands and hospitality businesses that can align with consumers' desire for quality, experience and value. As drinking occasions become more deliberate, businesses that focus on premium experiences, alcohol alternatives, food pairings and targeted offerings for specific age groups may be better positioned to capture spending in a changing marketplace.
