Gas Prices Hitting Americans' Finances, Travel Plans

Gallup found that 67% of Americans say higher gas prices have caused financial hardship for their household, matching the level reported during the 2022 fuel price surge. The survey also found that 57% are driving less because of fuel costs, while 46% have altered their summer vacation plans. Lower-income households are experiencing the greatest impact, with more than three-quarters reporting hardship and 28% describing it as severe.

These findings demonstrate how quickly fuel prices influence consumer behavior, creating opportunities for automotive, convenience store, restaurant, travel, tourism and local retail businesses to emphasize value, nearby destinations and cost-saving offers as consumers become more selective about discretionary spending and travel decisions.
