News deserts abound throughout the US, Medill study finds

News deserts are expanding across the U.S., according to Northwestern's Medill Local News Initiative. The study found that 208 counties now have no local news outlet, while 1,563 counties rely on just one source, highlighting a continuing decline in local journalism.
