Majority of Americans Prefer Spread-Out Communities with Big Houses



A majority of Americans (55%) prefer living in communities with larger homes spaced farther apart, even if it means being farther from schools, stores, and restaurants, though preferences vary by age, location, and political affiliation.

Homebuilders, real estate agents, lenders, home improvement brands, and suburban-focused retailers can connect with consumers prioritizing space and home size, especially as demand continues to support suburban and lower-density living environments.
