Americans’ Shifting Views on Energy Issues

Americans still lean toward prioritizing renewable energy over fossil fuels, but support has declined significantly (57% today vs. 79% in 2020), driven largely by a sharp shift among Republicans toward favoring fossil fuel development, while views on cost, reliability and government involvement in energy remain increasingly divided.

These evolving and often conflicting perceptions point to a more complex consumer mindset around energy, creating momentum for industries like automotive, utilities, home improvement and financial services that must navigate cost concerns, education gaps and shifting priorities as consumers weigh efficiency, affordability and long-term value.
