How Americans Are Engaged With News, Politics, Religion and Civic Life
Pew Research identified four distinct engagement groups based on Americans' involvement with news, politics, religion and civic life, ranging from highly engaged "Mobilizers" to people with much lower levels of participation. The study found that engagement extends beyond political activity to include community involvement, religious participation and news consumption, with each group displaying different levels of civic knowledge, trust and media habits.
These findings reinforce that audiences are not equally engaged with information or community life, creating opportunities for news organizations, healthcare providers, nonprofits, financial institutions and local businesses to tailor messaging based on how different consumers seek information and participate in their communities rather than relying on one-size-fits-all communication strategies.
