Gen X Retirement: Nearly 1 in 5 Workers Don’t Expect to Ever Fully Retire
A new Zety survey of 1,003 Gen X workers found that inflation is taking a significant toll on a generation approaching retirement. Sixty-four percent say recent inflation and rising costs have negatively affected their finances, while 58% say their income either barely covers or does not cover their expenses. As a result, 19% don't expect to ever fully retire and another 19% expect to work until age 68 or older. More than half (52%) worry they haven't saved enough for retirement, and 61% feel less financially secure than they expected to be at this point in their lives.
The findings point to a Gen X consumer increasingly focused on financial security and value as retirement approaches. Financial institutions, retirement planners, insurance providers, healthcare organizations and other businesses serving this generation have an opportunity to offer solutions that address debt, savings, rising living costs and the need to make retirement dollars stretch further.
