Electric Cars and Connected Homes: How Technology Adoption Extends Beyond the Driveway
EV owners may be a small segment - just 2% of car-owning Americans say an EV is their household's primary vehicle - but they are significantly more technology-focused. Nearly six in 10 (59%) are interested in trying the latest technology compared with 37% of other vehicle owners, while EV owners are also more likely to own smart thermostats (44% vs. 17%), smart security systems (44% vs. 24%) and smart speakers (42% vs. 21%).
The findings suggest EV ownership can signal an appetite for technology well beyond the vehicle itself. Sellers can prospect consumer electronics retailers, home security companies, HVAC contractors, electricians, internet providers, smart-home installers, solar companies and home improvement businesses looking to reach consumers who are receptive to connected products and services.
