Many Americans Think Data Centers Are Bad For The U.S.; More Oppose Them Locally

Americans have significant concerns about the growth of data centers, particularly when development gets close to home. Just 24% say construction of new data centers is good for the country, while 47% say it is bad, and opposition climbs to 61% when people are asked about building one in their own community. Electricity costs are a major concern, with 62% believing a new local data center would increase what they pay for electricity.

The findings can open conversations with businesses affected by growing concerns about energy use, development and infrastructure. Sellers can consider electric utilities, solar and renewable energy companies, HVAC contractors, electricians, energy-efficiency providers and local real estate and development firms, helping them educate consumers, address concerns and communicate how their services or projects affect the community.
