U.S. Marijuana Smoking at Record High, Cigarettes at Low

Marijuana smoking has surpassed cigarette smoking among U.S. adults, with 17% saying they smoke marijuana compared with 11% who smoke cigarettes. Marijuana smoking has more than doubled from 7% in 2013 and is particularly prevalent among adults ages 18-49, while 15% of Americans consume marijuana edibles. Beyond smoking, Gallup found 49% drink coffee daily, 21% drink tea and 20% consume caffeinated soda.

The shifting habits provide sellers with insights into changing consumer preferences and potential opportunities across several categories.
