Eyewear Spending Stabilizes After Cautious Quarters, The Vision Council Finds in Q2 inSights Report
After several quarters of cautious spending, the U.S. eyewear market appears to be stabilizing. The Vision Council’s Q2 2026 research found purchases remain spread across price points, but the share spending under $100 declined while purchases of $200 or more increased. Consumers remain deliberate: among those who haven’t recently purchased eyewear, 44% say they don’t need new glasses and 35% are making their current eyewear last longer. Meanwhile, 16% of recent eyewear buyers purchased smart eyewear.
The findings provide sellers with a reason to talk to optometrists, optical retailers, eyewear boutiques, ophthalmologists and vision care centers about giving consumers a reason to replace or upgrade their eyewear. Promotions around new styles, premium lenses, smart eyewear, eye exams and FSA/HSA benefits can help turn a purchase consumers may be postponing into one worth making now.
