Driver Shortage Changes The Playbook For Private Fleet Safety
With qualified truck drivers difficult to replace and accident litigation increasingly costly, private fleets are putting more emphasis on developing and retaining the drivers they already have. Companies are using cameras, telematics, driver scoring and predictive analytics to identify risky behavior earlier and target coaching and training where it is needed most. Dot Foods, for example, focuses additional attention on roughly the 10% to 20% of its drivers showing the greatest risk and has tied safety performance to bonuses that can represent nearly 10% of driver income.
The focus on retention, training and technology creates prospecting opportunities beyond trucking companies themselves. Sellers can approach trucking companies, private fleet operators, logistics businesses, driver training schools, commercial insurance providers, fleet technology companies, truck dealers and repair facilities with campaigns centered on recruiting and retaining drivers, safety, training and fleet efficiency.
