Mental Health Gap Widens Between Employed And Independent Physicians: Survey

Physician well-being continues to be a significant challenge, with 55% of doctors reporting debilitating stress in the past year and the same percentage regularly experiencing symptoms of burnout. Nearly half have made or considered a major career change because of well-being concerns, while almost four in 10 have declined additional responsibilities or leadership roles. The problem is particularly pronounced among employed physicians, who report worse well-being than independent doctors and cite workloads, organizational policies and productivity expectations as major stressors.

The findings create opportunities for businesses that can help health care organizations recruit, retain and support physicians. Sellers can approach hospitals, health systems, medical groups, physician recruiters, staffing firms, behavioral health providers, wellness programs and health care technology companies with solutions and messaging focused on recruitment, retention, reducing administrative burdens and improving the workplace experience.
