Many Americans Expect Big Benefits From AI But Concerns Are Rising Quickly

Americans are balancing optimism about artificial intelligence with increasing concern about its risks. Nearly half (47%) believe AI will bring many positive benefits, with medical and health care advances, increased productivity and scientific and technological progress among the most commonly cited. At the same time, 42% now consider the risks of AI causing harm to be very serious, up from 35% in late August, with loss of human control, job losses and harm to people among the leading concerns.

The findings suggest businesses promoting AI may need to address trust and potential benefits alongside the technology itself. Sellers can approach health care providers, technology companies, financial institutions, educational organizations, professional services firms and businesses offering AI-powered products and services with campaigns that emphasize practical applications, productivity, transparency and how AI benefits customers or employees.
