Furniture Orders Rise 9% As Industry Extends Growth Streak
The residential furniture industry continues to show positive momentum, with new orders increasing 9% year over year in July to $2.36 billion, according to Smith Leonard's September Furniture Insights report. Approximately two-thirds of surveyed companies reported increases, while shipments rose 8% and backlogs climbed 12%. Year-to-date orders are running 5% ahead of 2025, suggesting continued demand despite concerns about consumer confidence and housing affordability.
The growth creates opportunities for furniture retailers, mattress stores, home furnishings businesses, interior designers, flooring retailers, home improvement stores and appliance dealers. Sellers can encourage these advertisers to capitalize on consumer interest with campaigns highlighting new collections, room upgrades, financing options and value-driven promotions.
