Halloween Spending Expected To Drop To $162 As Economic Uncertainty Haunts Budgets
Americans are scaling back Halloween spending this year, with 80% planning to make a Halloween-related purchase, down from 90% in 2025, according to LendingTree. Those celebrating expect to spend an average of $162, compared with $192 last year, while 61% say economic uncertainty is causing them to skip some purchases. Candy tops shopping lists at 48%, followed by adult costumes and outdoor decorations at 21% each. Despite tighter budgets, 38% of celebrators expect to spend more than last year, including 58% of parents with children younger than 18.
With consumers balancing holiday traditions against rising costs, grocery stores, discount retailers, costume shops, party supply stores, candy retailers, seasonal attractions and family entertainment venues can attract shoppers by emphasizing affordability and value. Sellers can encourage these businesses to promote budget-friendly celebrations, costume and decoration deals, family packages and special events that help consumers enjoy Halloween without overspending.
