GLP-1 Users Face A Health-Or-Wealth Choice
The cost of GLP-1 medications is forcing some Americans to make difficult financial decisions, according to research conducted by The Harris Poll for Nationwide Retirement Institute. More than half (51%) of current GLP-1 users worry they may have to choose between paying for their medication and saving enough for retirement, while 54% have already changed their financial behavior, including 17% who have taken on debt. Although 88% feel more optimistic about their long-term health, 59% say those expected benefits reduce the pressure to save more for retirement. Meanwhile, 59% expect financial professionals to advise them about medication costs, yet 47% have never discussed the issue with an advisor.
As health care expenses increasingly influence long-term financial decisions, financial advisors, retirement planning firms, banks, credit unions, insurance providers, wealth management firms and employee benefits consultants have a timely reason to connect with consumers. Sellers can encourage these advertisers to address managing prescription costs, protecting retirement savings and planning for health care expenses that may extend well into retirement.
