Survey Reveals What Homeowners Want Most On Midterm Ballot

The rising cost of owning a home is putting increasing pressure on Americans, according to a new Hometap survey. Nearly two-thirds of homeowners (63%) report at least moderate financial stress from homeownership, up from 55% in June 2025, with millennials (77%) feeling considerably more pressure than baby boomers (48%). Property taxes are a particular concern, with 75% reporting increases over the past two years. As the midterm elections approach, 77% say a candidate's plan to reduce costs would influence their vote, yet only 26% believe the right candidate could actually lower their expenses.

The financial pressures associated with maintaining a home give banks, credit unions, mortgage lenders, insurance providers, financial advisors, home improvement contractors, HVAC companies and home repair businesses a timely reason to connect with homeowners. Sellers can encourage these advertisers to emphasize affordable financing, cost-saving services, home maintenance solutions and financial guidance that help homeowners manage expenses and protect their investments.
