Maximizing Potential In The Alcoholic Beverages Category

While alcoholic beverage sales are declining across multiple retail channels, ready-to-drink cocktails and nonalcoholic alternatives are showing strong growth, according to Convenience Store News, citing Circana and NielsenIQ data. Premixed cocktail sales in convenience stores surged 50.1% during the 52 weeks ended June 14, while the broader ready-to-drink category grew 4.8% across U.S. retail markets during the first half of 2026. Nonalcoholic beer sales increased more than 28% year over year in convenience stores, while nonalcoholic wine sales rose 21% in the same channel over the 52-week period. Imported beers, premium selections and smaller wine formats are also finding success as retailers adjust their offerings to changing consumer preferences.

Convenience stores can spotlight popular ready-to-drink cocktails, imported beers and single-serve selections to appeal to consumers looking for convenience and variety. Beer, wine and liquor retailers can emphasize emerging cocktail flavors, premium selections and expanding nonalcoholic options, where legally available, to showcase products aligned with changing beverage preferences.
