Optimism Grows In October As Current Conditions Improve

Farmer sentiment improved modestly in October, with the Purdue University-CME Group Ag Economy Barometer rising from 123 in September to 126, driven by a 16-point increase in the Index of Current Conditions. The Farm Capital Investment Index also climbed from 39 to 55, its highest level since December 2025, although only 20% of farmers believe now is a good time to invest in machinery and buildings. Financial pressures remain evident, with 62% reporting strong balance sheets, down from 76% in January. High input costs continue to be the industry's leading concern, while uncertainty about long-term agricultural policies is weighing on future expectations.

The improvement in farmer sentiment gives farm equipment dealers, agricultural lenders, banks, credit unions, farm supply retailers, precision agriculture providers, equipment repair businesses and crop insurance agencies a reason to reconnect with producers who may be reconsidering purchases and investments. Sellers can encourage these advertisers to promote financing programs, cost-saving technology, equipment maintenance and products that improve efficiency while addressing farmers' concerns about operating expenses.
